How To Play Audio Downloads on iOS

Downloading and playing meditations or other audio programs on iPhones, iPads, and iPods can seem confusing, because of Apple's restrictions on how apps access files from other apps. Fortunately, there are ways to make it work! Here are two options, depending on where you want to save and listen to the files.

Please note: we've provided the instructions below to get you started, but our team is NOT able to offer tech support for any of these methods. If you're having trouble at any step, we highly recommend turning to Apple's official support, or the official support of any other app you're using.

Option 1: download and listen directly on your iOS device

If you don't have a computer close at hand or are comfortable using an app other than the default Music app, it's simple to download and listen to audio files right on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

To start, download the file(s) you want. Downloads from Safari on iOS are stored in the Files app. If you're not sure how to find or move them, we put together some quick instructions here for you to follow.

Listening to downloaded audio files

The Music app on iOS doesn't let you access audio files downloaded from the browser (annoying, right?!) For the best experience, we recommend using a 3rd-party music player app to play the downloaded audio files. Any music player that can access local files should work. Two free apps we've used successfully are:

On each of these, you'll need to move or copy the audio files from your Downloads folder into the app's own folder under "On My iPhone". In Evermusic, you can also import your Safari downloads from the Connect screen, tap "Open Files". ( Go to Evermusic support for more information.)

Alternatively, you can also play the audio files directly inside the downloads app. In this case album details and artwork will not be visible, but no 3rd-party apps are necessary.

Option 2: download on a computer and move files to the Music app

If you want to listen to Saratoga's meditations and audio programs in the Music app, you'll need to use a computer to download them and then move them onto your device.

Start by downloading the audio files onto your computer. The next steps depend on what kind of computer you have:

Windows PC

You'll need to use iTunes to move the files to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Start by adding the files to your iTunes library: open iTunes, then drag and drop the downloaded files onto the iTunes window.

Next, connect your iOS device to the computer and sync it with your computer.

For step-by-step instructions, refer to Apple's detailed user guide: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210612.

Mac

If you're using macOS Catalina (10.15) or later, you can add audio files to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod directly from Finder. Follow Apple's instructions here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210611.

On macOS Mojave or earlier, you'll need to use iTunes to sync, in which case the instructions are similar to Windows. See Apple's guide here.
